Oyster River Petroleum was founded by Ed Granfield on his parent’s kitchen table in January of 1987. They set aside a small area of the house for a table and chair, a calculator, a rotary phone, a rolodex file, and a goal. That goal was to offer full service along with reasonably priced fuel oil. Ed then purchased his first oil truck, a used 1976 Peterbuilt with a small 2200 gallon steel tank and by word of mouth began delivering fuel oil to friends and neighbors. Later that spring, he purchased an answering machine, a pager, and hired their first service technician, and a company was born.
Today, 23 years later Oyster River Petroleum serves over 2000 homeowners in the Greater New Haven area. The company utilizes a computerized degree day system to provide pinpoint automatic delivery service with discount pricing, comprehensive service plans with 24 hour emergency response, on-line ordering and payment service, affordable monthly budget payment plans, and the sales and installation of high efficiency residential heating and cooling systems.
A lot has changed over the years but some things never change. Ed still has the table and original calculator, and you can call or email him, or any member of the staff with questions, concerns, or requests.
